Defective ESP32-S2 TFT Feather P/N 5300

Post by blakebr »

Hello,

I believe the ESP32-S2 TFT Feather P/N 5300 I received on order 2846587-7319580171 has a defective TFT display.

1) When I first plugged it in the NeoPixel changed colors but nothing on the TFT display
2) When I loaded ESPHole I got dots on REPL but nothing on the TFT display
3) When I loaded CircuitPython GitHub Stars Viewer I got valid information on REPL but nothing on the TFT display

The backlight TFT LEDs are lit. The WiFi module connects to my WiFi network on items 1 & 2.

Is there any further testing you would like me to do?

Bruce

Could you post clear pictures of your board on both sides? I can't think of anything you can do but I don't have one so I'm going to ask others.

@adafruit2, I do not. The display is blank.

ok lets replace it- email support@adafruit for a new one
this board'll still work for other projects, just not the screen part (for some reason!)

adafruit2,

Thank you for your help. I have contacted support as you suggested.

When I receive the replacement and get my project working it is my plan to try and see what is wrong with the first board. It is my guess a faulty solder joint where the ribbon cable connects to the PCB or the TFT display. The TFT display looks to only be glued to the PCB at the end away from the ribbon cable. It is my hope that the glue will release with heat from a hair dryer or the liberal application of 90% isopropyl alcohol. After all, I can't break the TFT display any more than it already is. I will post my results.

Franklin97355, Thank you for your help.
