Is adafruit.io open source or proprietary?

by zedin on Tue Sep 01, 2015 4:42 pm

Question.. is the adafruit.io built off open source packages? Could someone set it up on their own server without toooo many complications? Or is it a proprietary server side software from you folks at adafruit? Love that you guys are going to be offering this service and looking forward to using it but was not sure if someone would be able to setup their own server at home for it.

The goal is to have a simplified version of IO that is open source where you can host it on your own server. For now, this only includes the API components allowing you to continue to use your data if you ever wanted to export it from the hosted version of IO. Right now, the front-end is tightly integrated with too many other Adafruit services to open source, but that may change in the future.

We now have an API compatible open source server available for IO.
