digital_out example not working

by Barry914 on Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:35 pm

I can't get the example to work. It loops with the following output:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
Adafruit IO Example:
Free RAM: 951

Init the CC3000...Firmware V. : 1.32

Deleting old connection profiles

Attempting to connect to xxxxxx...Connected!
Requesting DHCP
Unable to retrieve the IP Address!     <--- sometimes it takes 2 tries

IP Addr: 192.168.1.8
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCPsrv: 192.168.1.1
DNSserv: 192.168.1.1
Connected to WiFi!
Connecting to Adafruit IO... io.adafruit.com -> 199.167.40.63
Adafruit IO Connected!

Any ideas where to start?

Hi Barry, I think you need to provide more details if you want someone to help you...

For example:
- Provide info on the hardware (Arduino? CC3000 board?)
- Share the code you're using or a reference to it if it's public code
- Describe clearly what "loops with the following output" means. Is the Arduino rebooting unexpectedly?

CC3000 shield, Uno, IDE 1.65, latest libraries as far as I know. The monitor output I posted repeats endlessly. Since it repeats setup() it must be rebooting either in or before it gets to the subscription loop.

This same hardware setup has been running a REST app for months, and is currently doing that again.

Power supply issues may generate issues like rebooting, but this may not be the case here if you're using the same set with other software.
Have you tried to compile with an older version of the IDE? I've not used the CC3000 library with the latest IDE, I think it's worth trying.

I got rid of my earlier IDE versions after experiencing no issues with 1.6.5 with any of my sketches, but I guess I could try that. Yeah, no power supply issues - using a 9v 1A wall wart. Supply issues usually prevent the CC3000 from connecting to the LAN and can be spotted by observing the power LED on the shield or breakout board. Any noticeable flicker is bad. Don't ask me how I know that.

Compiling with IDE 1.0.5 makes no difference.

Anyone else want to take a stab at this?

Barry, it looks like I am having the same issue. It eventually connects "Adafruit IO Connected" after some time. And, if I log in to the IO dashboard through my phone and toggle the switch to "on", the serial monitor on my laptop will read "Received: ON" in return...so it's receiving the message. But, it does not actually trigger the powerswitch to follow through. I've been trying a variety of other sketches to try to narrow in on the issue, but no luck yet.

I'm seeing different behavior. It logs on pretty quickly and appears to subscribe successfully but then restarts. It appears to restart, maybe as if the WDT times out or it just crashes somewhere.
