Home Automation in the Cloud with the ESP8266 & Adafruit IO

by geppetto2 on Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:55 pm

Trying to get the sensor module of this sketch to work but it won't compile.
The compiler stops and prints out "exit status 1 'connect' was not declared in this scope' "

Using the latest IDE and have included the two suggested libraries...

Thanks for any guidance

Fixed...
Was using Arduino 1.6.6
Rolled back to 1.6.4 and it works perfectly...

I received the same error with Arduino 1.6.7. Will this be "fixed", or do we always have to use the old release? Or am I missing something?

Best practice for any "3rd party" board is to always confirm that its known to work before updating (unless you can troubleshoot the gremlins on your own)... Presumably it will eventually be fixed, but in general the folks maintaining the 3rd party board packages don't focus on supporting new Arduino versions until they are released as stable which means support will lack by a few weeks to months depending on what was changed in the release.

I'm currently using Arduino 1.6.5 with version 1.6.5-947 of the esp8266 package (I had to rollback from the 2.0.0 release because of errors compiling and uploading), at this point I have everything working (AVR/ESP/M0/M4(Teensy)) so I'm not going to touch anything until I need to.

Well, the problem here is that I was following the instructions in the Adafruit Learning System, and received the error. https://learn.adafruit.com/home-automat ... o?view=all

Adafruit has a link to the Arduino IDE, but just lets you assume that you can use the one that Arduino is pushing. They should tell you that you need to install an old release.

It is very frustrating when doing a tutorial, and the *first* time you try a sample sketch, it fails. I was able to find this open ticket and fix my problems, but the tutorial should work out of the box.
