MQTT Library Question

by PilotC150 on Fri Jan 15, 2016 10:25 am

Quite the coincidence that the "MQTT and Adafruit.IO" guide was posted today (or was it yesterday?). Just in the past couple days I've been looking into MQTT for passing messages between my sensors and my hub. Actually my case right now I was going to set up RabbitMQ on my desktop computer at home with the MQTT plugin to collection some weather sensor values before uploading them to Weather Underground. It just didn't seem like a good idea to make a REST call from the Arduino every 1-5 seconds (in order to collect valid wind speed data). MQTT certainly sounds like the answer.

What I'm wondering, though, is if I can use the Adafruit MQTT library to connect to other MQTT brokers, or it there's something about it that makes it specific for Adafruit.io?

It should work to connect to other brokers. Just update the host and port.
