Choosing between the M4 Kit and the 8x8 Feather M4 kit

Post by MattVG »

I am a beginner and would like to create a simple MIDI controller to control video projection software. To that end I have been looking at the "NeoTrellis M4 with Enclosure and Buttons Kit Pack" (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4020) as well as the "8x8 NeoTrellis Feather M4 Kit Pack" (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1929).

Personally, I would prefer more buttons, but the smaller kit comes with a tutorial (https://learn.adafruit.com/trellis-m4-m ... controller) and appears very straightforward to get up and running.

Can I use the same firmware with the 8x8 kit to get it up and running as easily as the the smaller kit or is it wiser, as a beginner, that I start with the simpler kit?

It's almost as easy, but does requires some soldering to join the 4x4 boards and connect the feather. See https://learn.adafruit.com/neotrellis-f ... e-assembly and https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neotrellis.

Thank you for the input. Soldering I can do.
