I ordered a Adafruit Feather HUZZAH with ESP8266, and when I plugged in my USB to the device, after about 15 seconds it started smoking. I had Ardiuno app open, and saw a connection, but did not even get to build code to it. I immediately unplugged the device when it started smoking, but since then it will not connect and appears dead. If possible, I would like to get a replacement.

The soldering is a bit f a mess, but I don't see anything obviously problematic so I'll chalk it up to a parts of manufacturing problem. Please email support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread, your order number, and request the replacement of one Feather HUZZAH ESP8266.

Kinda looks like the area on the edge of the board between 3V, NC, and GND flared up? Yeah the poor soldering job could have contributed to the issue. Recommend you get some chip qwik flux for your next soldering attempt, it will make soldering seem magically easier. You shouldn't be able to see the gold around the through hole pins with a good bond.

I've seen chips smoke without any visible signs of defect so you might not find a problem with a visual inspection alone. Wish you the best of luck.

BAT and EN are shorted together to the ground pad of the JST connector - shorting the battery out
