Feather M0 Bluefruit LE isn't detected as a COM Port

by JeanYu on Thu Jul 27, 2017 11:49 am

We just bought Feather M0 Bluefruit LE and Feather nRF52 Bluefruit LE two chips.

nRF52 the PC and IDE and recognized it as a COM port without any problem
When we plug nRF52 to PC, we can see it's using COM 4
However, the PC and IDE never recognize M0 Bluefruit LE as a COM port.
Since the M0 Bluefruit LE has never been recognized as a COM Port, I can't upload Blink example to test it and see which port it's using.
When it's powered up, the LED of LE module blinks like 3 times every second

We did bootloader by connecting DFU to GND.
We did update the firmware via phone
We tried it on MAC OSX, still couldn't upload codes or anything.

Is there anything we can do to fix this problem and upload codes on it?

Thanks

It sounds like the firmware's USB code has crashed. Try the instructions from the troubleshooting FAQ and see if that helps:

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.
I tried the method, it's still not finding the COM port : (

Just to check, are you using the same USB cable for the M0 that you're using for the nRF52?

If you aren't try swapping the cables. There's a plague of charge-only cables with USB connectors at both ends but no wires connecting the data signals out there. We see people get caught by those every day.

Yes, we use the same cable that we use for nRF52

Okay, let's check the firmware: does the red LED in the corner between the USB jack and the JST-PH2 LiPo jack pulse when you double-click the reset button?

No, the only LED blinking is the one next to the BT chip.
It blinks three times and then rests about a second, no matter what I did, like double click the reset button.

My phone can fine the module.
I updated it to version 0.77 from 0.65 but still not working.

Do you have a LiPo or a non-computer USB power source you can use?

The Bluetooth module seems to be fine, but the problem is with the microcontroller. The SAMD21 handles USB communication internally, and some USB ports, especially ones that support USB-3, emit signals the M0's bootloader can't handle.

If you can power the Feather from a non-USB source and double-click the reset button, that will give us more inforamtion about the state of the microcontroller.

Hi,

I plugged a battery to the module to power up it. Then double clicked the reset button, but still couldn't see the LED at the corner blinking.
I also tried to different USB-2 and USB-3 ports, non of them work.

Thank you. That confirms a problem with the microcontroller or the firmware.

Send a note containing a link to this thread and your order number to support@adafruit.com. The folks there will get you a replacement Feather M0 BLE.

I have also this kind of problem but a little different. I have a pulse near the JST and USB jack when reset button is pressed and the LED near the bluetooth is blinking three times after three seconds but the problem is my adafruit 32u4 feather MO bluefruit LE which I just purchased last week can't be detected as port. I have 2 of these boards the other one works completely fine and can be detected. What might be the problem of the board? I include screenshots of the problem. Thank you in advance.
