The first thing to do is suppress as much of the noise as you can at the source. 3 capacitors soldered to the motor leads as shown here is a good way to do that: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-mot ... aq-2861890

If that does not solve it, you can use the circuit posted above - except connect the resistor to GND instead of 3.3v.

I couldn't add capacitors on the DC motor itself as I cannot access to it (fully enclosed in plastic) so I connecte the GPIO pin which was causing issue to Ground with both a resistor and a capacitor.
It works great now!!
