Feather M0 Express + 1000C Boost + Lipo Question

by Apotessar on Tue Jan 16, 2018 6:40 pm

Hi

I want to use a 1000C Boost module for powering one high torque servo (5V Output). But I need the servo only for a short peroid of time (0.5 - 1 sec. from time to time).
To save most of the current witch is used for holding the zero position, i'd like to switch of the current to the servo.

Is something like this possible? And is it still possible to use the USB Port of the booster to charge and the USB Port of the feather to maintain code?
Some little guy in my head told me, that is not the best idea.

Sure.. just connect one of the Feather's GPIO pins to the PowerBoost's EN pin.

When you send the GPIO pin low, it will shut off the boost converter, which is the major current load. Any time you need 5v, just send the GPIO pin high and wait a few milliseconds for the voltage to stabilize.

Thanks for your answer

Just to clarify:

1. is it save to operate and use the boards while loading the LiPo?
2. is it possible to use booth usb connections at the same time? (i'm just curious because they got different ratings; not necessary for my project)

Yes, you can use the Feather and PowerBoost while the LiPo is charging.

You can use either LiPo charger, but only the charger on the board with a USB cable plugged into its jack will work. Connecting USB cables to both boards at the same time could damage the LiPo chargers, so only use one or the other.
