Feather MO and Cricket Wing setup for 'MIDI Solenoid Drummer

Hi, I'm having trouble with receiving MIDI to my solenoids. I followed the steps here https://learn.adafruit.com/midi-solenoid-drummer, all is good until I try and activate them via midi. When I upload the code to the board all of the solenoids trigger to indicate they are working... I can send MIDI to other external instruments from my DAW with no problem, so it's difficult to see the issue. Any help would be much appreciated!!!! I have posted on Adafruit forums but have received no response.
