Circuit Python Express showing as USB Drive

by geekguy on Sun Feb 25, 2018 9:26 pm

I was mucking around trying to update my CPx to a later version of Circuit Python (2.2.3, 2.2.1, etc). It now shows up only as a USB Drive, not as CIRCUITPY or CPLAY*. I do not know what I did to get my CPx into this state. All I was doing is reloading Circuit Python and various versions of the library bundle.

Is there any way to restore my CPx to a usable state so I can play with it again? I do not have access to a regular computer. All I have is my ASUS ChromeBook.

Follow the directions here for Circuit Playground Express: https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-c ... ive-issues. That will erase the current contents of CIRCUITPY and then CircuitPython will re-create it.

CIRCUITPY can get corrupted if you unplug before Windows or Linux (and sometimes Mac) finishes writing out all the data to the filesystem. When you copy files to CIRCUITPY, do an "Eject" in Windows or a "sync" in Linux afterwards. Also see the guidelines here: There are some guidelines to get around this problem here: https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-c ... iting-code

Thank you, Dan!
Except for losing one program I did not have a backup of but can recreate pretty easily, everything is back to normal. :) :)

Hello everyone,

Can I use CircuitPython with a chromebook or does it have to be Windows/Max/Linux?

Thank you for your help.
