Rapid prototyping options?

Post by DaveMark »

Hi, Crazy idea, but I'm looking for ways where I, and others, can rapid prototype from CP to say a breadboard or directly to electronic bits, with a solid connection on the CP end, but not use solder or Alligator clips.

What may be the other options?

Very much don't want what that may be to damage, or leave the CP in less than new condition, so it could be used many times over for every new idea.

You could make a pogo pin jig like the ones we use for testing: https://learn.adafruit.com/how-to-make- ... n-test-jig

The Pomona MiniGrabbers work well also: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2617

I'm curious why you want to avoid alligator clips? "solid" and "rapid" are kind of competing requirements.

Thanks for the info on "Pomona MiniGrabbers".

I have had too many bad experiences with alligator clips in the past, and I truly believe there has to be a better way for a very rapidly changing connection, with some degree of solid.

And that's the key thing here, "some degree of solid" does not mean permanent, or the other way of being too loose. It's a bit like Goldilocks and the Three Bears where I finding the balanced option.

With the Pomona MiniGrabbers, you don't have them with wires pre-attached? (No plugs)

Unfortunately, no. We only have the bare clips. They are pretty easy to attach to a wire and don't require soldering.

Actually, it looks like these do require soldering. However, they are available in pre-made jumper wires in various styles from other sources:

The ideal for me would be a solderless breadboard with a socket designed for the Playground. I'm currently teaching a wearables class for kids and I'm so impressed with the CP (with all the baked-in goodies) that I would strongly consider using it for a straight-up electronics or Arduino class rather than an Uno. The fallback option would be to use a regular breadboard with alligator / pin jumpers ([url]https://www.adafruit.com/product/3255[/url)]. I wasn't acquainted with the pogo pins -- I'll look into building something with those.
