Circuit Playground Express "No Name" Issue

by eshock on Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:33 pm

I've hit a barrier in experimenting with the Circuit Playground Express. While working on some code in Circuit Python, something happened where I am no longer able to upload code to the board. When I plug it in it is recognized as "NO NAME" and only has one file saved in it, boot_out.txt.

I followed the steps on Adafruit for fixing this (downloading the erase file, putting the board in bootloader mode, dragging the uf2 file into the drive, etc), to no avail - after completing the steps it ends up still being recognized as NO NAME and I am still unable to save code onto it.

Has this ever happened to anyone? If not, do you have suggestions for how to move forward? Thank you for your help!

Yes, those were the instructions I followed. For the last step I was using the adafruit-circuitpython-circuitplayground_express-2.2.4.uf2 file.

Hmmm. Not sure. Seems like you did everything correctly. Let's make sure the basic operation is still OK. Can you reliably get it into bootloader mode? That is, do the double reset and have CPLAYBOOT show up?

Yes, I am able to do this. CPLAYBOOT mode. When I do, all the neopixels on board turn green and the D13 status LED is red.

OK. Good. Then, when you ran the flash erase, did the status light show as expected, and it took several seconds, etc.? i.e. this part:
4. The onboard NeoPixel will turn blue, indicating the erase has started.
5. After approximately 15 seconds, the NeoPixel will start flashing green.

Yes. After I drag the file to erase circuit py, it turns blue, then blinks green. After completing the step of dragging the latest release into the boot drive, CIRCUITPY reappears, implying that it worked. However, when trying to upload code I am unable to. Right now I'm trying to blink the D13 LED on board, using the example code from here: https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-c ... iting-code, but am unsuccessful.

However, when trying to upload code I am unable to.

Can you provide more detail on what happens here. Do you get any kind of error message? What OS are you working with on your computer?
