Big Sur DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY madness

by adavid7 on Sat Feb 13, 2021 6:26 pm

Ever since I upgraded to macOS Big Sur, I have found that the harmless "DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY" notifications after each download are rather persistent, and require manually dismissing each one. This madness is driving me crazy. Does anyone have a solution to either suppressing them or at least dismissing them all at once?

This should disable the message, but will only last until the next reboot. It shuts up the UserNotificationCenter so you might miss some helpful messages.

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.UserNotificationCenter.plist

Oh, thanks. Too bad you can't control which of those system notifications you want or don't want, like you can with other apps' notifications.

@adavid7,

This might have changed a bit in BigSur, but on my Mojave MacOS box (10.14) I can go to:

Apple --> System Preferences --> Notifications

and customize alerts and do not disturbs, etc.

Right @mikeysklar. It's the same in Big Sur, but these notifications are system ones, not coming from an app, so I don't see a way to control those in that setting.

Oh well.

I did find a partial workaround for this problem. If you select the Do Not Disturb control, then you can turn notifications off for just an hour, for example. SO if you know you are going to be doing a bunch of coding, you could do this and suppress the notifications while you are working in MakeCode.

Thank you for sharing this. Shutting off notifications even if only for an hour can at least make using this tolerable under BigSur.
