Overheating Issue

Post by tpcone »

We purchased about 250 circuit playground express to use in some of our virtual summer programs and thus far they're doing great. Unfortunately, two of our participants are indicating that their playground is both burning hot and they smell like burning electronics. We need to replace these two so that the students can continue to participate in the program. Please advise what next steps I need to take.

Are those new boards? Or were they used by students?

Further details and new information- We've continued to use the circuit playground express kits in our summer programs (brand new kits that we're opening for the first time) and continuing to have overheating issues. Specifically we have no overheating issues when using them with the neopixel strips or just by themselves. The overheating only seems to occur when we attach a micro servo (also purchased in bulk from adafruit). We've tried it with just the battery pack and with just the USB attached to a chromebook. Out of the 40ish that we're using for our summer camp this week about half of them are overheating at some point during the day. Ideas on what we may be doing wrong?

OK, sounds specific to the servo usage. Can you post photos showing one of the setups so we can see how the servo and CPX boards are being wired up.
