Weird NEo pixel behavior

Post by Confundo »

I have some neo pixel rings attached to a circuit playground express, all the solders are good, there are 2 x 24 and 4 x 12 rings (96 LEDs). The set up runs fine for a few minutes, colorful and bright but after about 3 or 4 minutes sometimes less all the LED's will only display red or green. I have used new batteries for the test 3 x AAA and 4 x AA with the same results.

Is something on the board broken?

thank you

I suspect they are just draining the batteries.

Does it behave the same way when the board is powered via USB?

NeoPixels are power hungry. 96 of them can use up to almost 6A (worst case: everything full brightness white).

Try a different power source, light up fewer pixels at a time at lower brightness.

Also, read https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide if you haven't.
