Two Adafruit FX boards

by Gvanhill on Fri Mar 13, 2020 12:20 pm

I have used an Adafruit FX sound board to trigger 11 sound effects on a project. What I would like to do is set up another sound board that I could switch between and trigger 22 sound effects with the same 11 buttons. I would like to know if this is possible and what would be the best way to do it. Thanks, Glen

Yes, that should be possible -- one way would be to have two FX boards, and the same buttons you're currently using, except they run to both boards, plus add a SPDT switch to ground and the reset pin of each board. This will effectively shut one board down while using the other.

Thanks John. That's pretty much what I thought. I didn't know about the reset pins though. That's where my trouble was.
The power would still connect to the vin pins?

Reset pin is awesome because it essentially acts like a soft on/off.

Yes, you can power the boards the same way as usual.

I got the two sound boards together. I'm not getting the sound quality out of them that I've gotten before. I'm not sure the best way to tap into them. The board that I used before had a stereo plug that I plugged a mic cord into and ran to a powered speaker. These boards just have the R and L. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Glen

There are versions with and without built-in amplifiers. Which version do you have? https://www.adafruit.com/?q=audio%20fx%20sound

This part of the guide shows where to connect your audio output https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-aud ... tputs-3-12
Be sure to use the ground pin shown in the photo above that section, that is next to the L&R pins. It is not the same as the power ground on the board.
