Hailowing problem

by pdxpete on Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:23 am

My Hailowing doesn't do anything when plugged in. The pc doesn't see it and the all that happens is the orange charge light flashes. I checked the cable and the on off switch. I am using the same pc that i use for gemma m0 and circuitplayground express so it should work.

On Windows 10, I get access to the usb drive (hallowing) in bootloader mode. However it pauses for a very long time (several minutes) before a file copy windows appears. Then I get a preparing to copy Ø disovered items, with a scrolling file copy progress bar. What am I missing?

It could be insufficient power to the board -- the HalloWing draws more current than the Gemma and CPX. Could you try different USB ports on your computer, as well as a powered USB hub to rule that out? (Or, if you are on a hub already, going directly to ports on your computer.)

I am the OP, I can't get into boot loader mode. It seems unresponsive.

It's not a power issue, I have tried different ports usb 2 and 3 and with a fully charged battery connected. At least I don't think. Could there be a driver needed? Maybe it can't be copied thru Windows explorer? The lights are correct, its just the copy to drive hangs and never pops up for minutes at a time. I'm just trying to copy over one of the other files to see the different effects...

The blinking CHG LED is normal. That will happen even if the switch is in the OFF position. However, you definitely need to have the switch in the ON position to go into bootloader mode or program the board.

Describe what you see on the red D13 LED and the NeoPixel when you try to go into bootloader mode.

Also - the timing of the double press of the reset can sometimes be tricky. Try it several times.

The D13 LED does not light up, neither does the Neopixel(ever). The power switch is definitely on. I can't get to bootloader mode. I do have experience getting to bootloader mode with circuit playground express and gemma, so I think i know how it should work.

Can you post a photo of both sides of the board so we can see if there's anything obviously wrong with the hardware. You should at least be getting some activity on those LEDs. Not just nothing.
