PyGamer Display Stopped Working and B Button Missing Top

by jfhuber on Wed Jun 26, 2019 9:05 pm

Hi,

I think I received my PyGamer with the B button missing to top part, although I looked through all the packaging and didn't find it anywhere. (I actually thought it was just a button until it came time to put the caps on)

I did go ahead and assembled it and the display did come on, but a few minutes later it stopped working, the display would no longer light up but all 5 lights on the front now stay on. I've tried on power and just on battery, resetting, etc, with no change.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thank You!

John

Well, that button is definitely broken. Sorry about that. But let's see if we can maybe the PyGamer back to life. Remove the battery for now so we can just power it via USB. Then, plug in a USB cable and double press reset. What happens with the screen and the NeoPixels (the 5 LEDs below the screen)?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I removed the battery and just powered via USB.

5 NeoPixels are on solid, D13 is flashing red (maybe 3-4 times a second), and charge led is flashing super fast, screen is off.

I double press the reset button and the 5 NeoPixels do nothing (no blinking, no change in intensity, just on solid).

And, no change with the screen (still off)

The only thing I can see is that each time I depress the reset button D13 turns off for the instant the reset button is pressed and then returns to flashing the instant reset is released.

Thanks for your help,

John

Are the solid color NeoPixels red or green?

OK, that might be somewhat good. The NeoPixels are used for status indication. Green would be good. Red means something is wrong with the USB connection. But the fact that the NeoPixels are coming on at all indicates that the bootloader is at least running.

Check your USB cable and make sure it's not charge only.

I used another USB cable and it did start. :) NeoPixels were red and then turned green and the screen turned on.

(no change on battery)

Yeah. Glad it's at least working now. Is something still happening with the battery though? We want to send you a replacement since you can't use the pretty button toppers with that broken off button post. But want to make sure we resolved any other issues first. So just wondering if something is up with the battery also?
