PyGamer not functional with battery

by cheech47 on Sat Jun 29, 2019 2:21 pm

Received my first Adabox yesterday, and there seems to be an issue with the PyGamer. I am able to get it to a bootloader if I eliminate the battery and use a very short USB cable to a powered USB switch (and the PC recognizes it). Under battery power as well as under USB power using a known good 5v 2.5A USB charger, the display does not light and all NeoPixels are red. Could I have a bad battery?

Thanks!

Could you please take a clear photo of both sides of the PyGamer so we can have a look? That certainly sounds odd.

With USB charger attached. Yellow LED was solid, red LED was pulsating. No change to front of unit, still red NeoPixels and dead screen.

After taking these pics I was able to update the bootloader to 3.7.0 successfully, however that did not change any of the PyGamer's behavior.

I also tried plugging into PC USB with the battery, the unit fired right up into bootloader mode.

OK, a lot of that behavior sounds consistent with having a healthy PyGamer but no software running on it other than the bootloader. It will only go to bootloader when plugged into a computer with a USB data cable, yellow light means charging, red pulsing LED and red NeoPixels will happen when it starts up before finding code to run. So, it sounds like maybe yours didn't get the .uf2 on it before shipping perhaps.

With it plugged into the computer and in bootloader mode, try downloading and then dragging the pygamer_test.uf2 file onto the BOOTLOADER drive as explained here: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pyg ... duino-test

If that works, yay! You should be able to run that from battery or USB power.

The test file works, so that's good. Where can I get a copy of the pre-loaded game?
