Can't connect to REPL but board otherwise seems alive

by silvercreek on Sun Dec 11, 2016 11:56 pm

Totally new to this so may be user error.

I flashed my Feather HUZZAH with MicroPython and everything went fine. But, when I try to access the REPL (using 'screen' on a macbook) it says "Sorry, could not find a PTY." WebREPL can't connect either, but I do see the MicroPython Wifi listed in the available networks.

I've tried pressing RESET and plugging/unplugging without success. I also tried erasing and re-flashing with no luck. The flash process was successful so I know the board isn't dead...

Ideas?

Make sure you provide the baudrate to screen. I had this problem too until I was explicit with it.

For example:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
screen /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART 115200

Thanks -- I am providing the baud rate but I notice my path to the board is a little different. This is what I'm using:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
screen /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART 115200

Note "cu" instead of "tty." Think that's the issue? (At work now, can't test just yet)

It could be. I don't know what the cu stands for. I'm on Mac OSX Sierra Beta FWIW.

I forget what the exact distinction is, but "cu" and "tty" devices are two aliases for the same physical device with some different handling around the handshake lines. If I remember correctly, "tty" is used for connecting out to a device, whereas "cu" is used for devices that call into the computer (e.g. modems on a BBS type system). I'm on Windows, so I'm not an authority, but every example I've seen for connecting to a microcontroller has used the "tty" devices.
