Makecode-ish block Micropython?

by sethcohn on Wed Jul 26, 2017 4:06 am

Found via watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IoJfiMH1cw
but Ladyada didn't visit the 'block' tab, so not sure she saw this:

http://turnipbit.com/PythonEditor/editor.html

It uses makecode-ish blocks but it's not javascript, it's python code generated.

Any plans to implement this for CircuitPython now?

Ah, after some googling, I think (but not sure) that the above is based on this:
https://github.com/bbcmicrobit/PythonEditor

(likely based on this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCZEKtNHx5k )

I think this would be awesome if a CircuitPython-ic version for the CPX,M0 Express, etc were to exist too. It could only make debugging easier.

Its not on my plan anytime soon. I think we're happy having MakeCode as the option for the absolute beginner and then CircuitPython as the next stepping stone into code. There is a bunch of other work we're looking to do like more board support and more libraries.

However, if someone else wanted to pick it up, I'd be happy to answer any questions they have about CircuitPython.
