CircuitPython for ESP8266

by deryaakitis on Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:28 pm

I'm trying to install CircuitPython on the ESP8266 by following the steps on https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-c ... or-esp8266 . At Erasing part, I'm getting the following output on my terminal.

esptool.py v2.7
Serial port /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
Connecting........_____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____

A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to Espressif device: Timed out waiting for packet header

Do you have an idea about how can I fix it?

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
Serial port /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
Is probably not the correct port.
Is this on a Mac? You should see a port named
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
tty.SLAB_USBtoUART

Also be aware that , as noted in the guide, the ESP8266 CircuitPython build is no longer supported. The version available (3.1.2) is quite old and no further releases will be made.

The ESP8266 is still supported by MicroPython. https://docs.micropython.org/en/latest/esp8266/tutorial/intro.html

Yeah, it may be caused by that, but I couldn't figure out how to find the Port name. I had tried with this command ' ls /dev/tty.usbmodem* ' but it doesn't work.

Try: `ls /dev/tty*`
