pyportal and image-formatter issue

by colonwq2 on Tue Oct 29, 2019 11:53 pm

Is this possible:

I'm trying to get my pyportal to use the image-formatter to convert a png/jpg/gif generated from the Google Maps API.

I can use my Google API URL to download an image to my browser.
I can use the image-formatter to convert random images
When I try to combine the two, I get the following error message:
{"error":"request failed - failed to load and process image"}

Here is an example combined URL with lots of secrets removed:
https://io.adafruit.com/api/v2/MYNAME/i ... YGOOGLEKEY

Thanks for any help.

I don't think that the image formatter can handle the complex URLs returned by google maps. Additionally since the request would be coming from the adafruit.io servers or whatever the image-formatter is backed by, there is a good chance google doesn't like the request.

I would try sideloading the image to a another service like imgur, dropbox, or some other service that allows plain direct links to the image.
