New version of Thonny IDE

by aivarannamaa on Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:14 am

Hi everybody!

I just released a new version of Thonny IDE with several improvements related to MicroPython / CircuitPython support: https://github.com/thonny/thonny/releases/tag/v3.2.3

Usage instructions are here: https://github.com/thonny/thonny/wiki/MicroPython

Looking forward to your feedback!

Best regards
Aivar

We've had a couple people try to install Thonny and it didn't install. I tried to install on WIndows and it bombs out looking for _ctypes but perhaps I didn't install, I looked at the wiki on Windows Install and it talked about a script but there isn't one in the zip.

The pip install thonny did work on Windows in a command line as I had Python 3.7 installed. There it runs fine and detects a Circuit Playground Express when one goes to Options -> Interpreter and selects the CircuitPython (generic) option.

Please advise on the non-pip installs possibly broken.

Great work!

I'm sorry you had problems with the installation.

Regular Windows installer is https://github.com/thonny/thonny/releas ... -3.2.3.exe

https://github.com/thonny/thonny/releas ... rtable.zip is meant to be extracted to a USB drive and run from thonny.exe, but it should run from local disk as well. Did you get the "_ctypes" problem when running thonny.exe? Note that on first run it takes a while before the window appears, as it needs to compile used Python modules.

For this release I've tried both variants only on Windows 10 computers, though. Which Windows version were you using?
