try renaming main.py to "code.py" and then open up the Mu editor (its the easiest one to use) and post a screenshot

add a print("done playing") at the bottom, save, then restart the program via control-D in the repl

Done. That text doesn't print anywhere.

I'm now getting this message after having renamed the file. It's run fine with the Arduino IDE before, so I dunno why it would be doing this now. I have no extra hardware connected:

Running in safe mode! Not running saved code.

You are running in safe mode which means something unanticipated happened.
The microcontroller's power dipped. Please make sure your power supply provides
enough power for the whole circuit and press reset (after ejecting CIRCUITPY).

Press any key to enter the REPL. Use CTRL-D to reload.

I plugged it into a USB wall power supply and it worked. If I hit the reset button, I hear a faint crackle each time. If I turn the enable switch off & on, the faint crackle happens. The only way it works is if I unplug the power then plug it in again.

you need to figure out why the board is not running the circuitpy code. please follow the instructions above to open the repl, erase the filesystem, and copy the files back over

I think it is running the code now, just with different results depending on its reset method. I've recopied everything several times with no change.

Update: I noticed the charging light wasn't on, so I switched to a brand new Feather M0 Express and now that light works. Could this be a clue? I'll do more tests after charging.

dont press the reset button while connected to the REPL - you should be able to see the prints in the REPL that you added :)
press control D to re-run

I now have the final answer: Sound will not work when powered by the USB connector. Sound will only work when powered via battery connector.

If I can't connect via USB to a Mac, how can I troubleshoot using mu? (see previous post)

maybe you're running out of USB power? try a better quality USB cord :/
