Question: Cheap Wfi Circuit python solution

by munocat on Thu Apr 02, 2020 2:36 pm

Hello

I am looking for a wifi device that can handle I2C and some GPIO. I am looking for a cheap solution, Currently I am running on RPi Zero, the cost of this is $10+$8 for SD card, plus charger, the downside of this is that I am using Raspian and cannot just power on or off with out corrupting the SD card. I am looking for a solution that uses Circuit Python, that connects to my wifi network. I have my MQTT servers on the network.

Thank you

We do not sell a WiFi enabled CircuitPython capable MCU that is cost competitive with an RPi Zero. You are getting the best price using your current setup.

I totally understand the frustration with running an entire OS and it's messy shutdown.

Some options if you willing to spend more would be to get an ESP32 WiFi Co-Processor add-on setup going with an M4 based board. The Airlift setup starts at $12.95, but since you need to provide another microcontroller to run CircuitPython it quickly comes out to $28 - $35 for the pair. I've linked to some example setups below.

ItsyBitsy M4 Express looks like it can support the airlift and an I2C device.

Yep, $15 for the ItsyBitsy M4 and another $15 for the Add-On-Esp32 AirLift.

Thank you.

I have an itsybitsy M4 at hand, I will set up the sensor. When the adafruit is back up and running I will order an airlift.

until them hope we all stay safe and well.

During this time, you can also obtain Adafruit parts through our partner Digi-Key, if you're interested. The Itsy AirLift is available. https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/ ... D/10447004
