Is the Arduino Uno supported by Circuitpython?

by Stompeii on Thu Apr 23, 2020 6:25 am

Hi,

I'm trying to control my Adafruit DRV2605L Haptic Controller using circuitpython and getting a "Board not supported" error:

NotImplementedError("Board not supported {}".format(board_id))

I'm using an Arduino Uno, and the Haptic Controller is working fine using the Arduino IDE. The Arduino Uno is also working under python control with other coding projects.

Will I have to upgrade and buy an Arduino Zero or is there a workaround?

The UNO does not have enough horsepower or memory to support the overhead of Python. You would need to upgrade to a board with a more powerful processor and more memory.

The Metro M0 Express is designed specifically for running CircuitPython: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3505
In addition to the ARM Cortex M0 processor (same as the Arduino Zero) we've added 2MB of SPI Flash memory on the board, so you will have extra room for libraries and scripts.

If you are ordering a new board I highly recommend getting something with a SAMD51 (aka M4) instead of the SAMD21 (M0). The SAMD51 has much more memory and is also faster.
