New Trinket M0: CIRCUITPYTHON is read-only?

by maximinimal on Fri Jun 05, 2020 6:29 pm

Hi! I'm trying to upload my first bit of code to a brand new Trinket M0 from macOS. However, I get the following error in Mu when attempting to save:

Error saving file to disk. Ensure you have permission to write the file and sufficient disk space.

In Terminal, I have full read/write/execute permissions on the CIRCUITPYTHON volume. However, if I try to touch code.py I get the error:

touch: code.py: Read-only file system

Finder also shows that I "can only read" files.

The LED cycles through a rainbow while connected to my computer.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks all!! :]

You may need to wipe and reinitialize the flash filesystem. Sometimes it will get corrupted, for example if you unmount uncleanly. Look on https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-circuitpython/troubleshooting?preview_token=WsdVgHQVBTr9iHLerIfyWA under CIRCUITPY Drive Issues.

Thanks, Dave!

Turns out it was- as is so often the case- user error. I was trying this on a work machine which has some controls which evidently prevent writing to USB volumes.

Thanks again for your help, and for any other folks encountering this error, make sure you aren't on a work machine. :]
