PyPortal apparently DOA

by gossiphog on Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:54 am

My brother John bought us a PyPortal as a gift, but it arrived yesterday and I can't get it to work at all.

I've tried a number of different cables, directly to a laptop port.

There is a flicker on the screen when I plug the cable in, but otherwise nothing else ever happens.

The neopixel never lights up, even when I push the reset button once or twice.

The order invoice # is 2321921, order date July 11.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!
David

Do have a USB charger with a micro-USB plug? Try that. The NeoPixel should turn red, and the red LED should blink quickly. (It's complaining it's not connected to a computer.)

What kind of laptop is it?

If you do get it to work, update the bootloader right away: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pyp ... bootloader

I tried plugging the PyPortal in using a charger, and the same exact thing happened.

Brief flicker from the screen and nothing else. Neopixel never lights up.

Laptop is an HP i5 running Windows 10.

thanks

What happens to the red LED when you plug it in and double-click?

Nothing. I've tried clicking the reset once and twice at various speeds, neopixel has never lit up.

Ok, thank you, let's replace it. Send an email to support@adafruit.com with your original order information and a pointer to this thread, saying that a replacment has been authorized.

When you get your replacement, update the bootloader right away: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pyp ... bootloader
