BLE Scan not picking up all devices

by dougconran on Sat Jul 25, 2020 5:57 pm

I am using the example ble_detail_scan program from the from the 5 series circuitpython examples folder and running it on an itsybitsynrf52840. That is detecting 2 and sometimes 3 bluetooth devices (2 of which are Windows 10 desktops) whereas nRF Connect lists 7 or more devices. Why would that be and are there any scan parameters I can set to pick up more?

It's possible the settings are different. Are the devices that are missed nearby or distant?

They are certainly more distant than those it was picking up. Also it did pick up the microcontroller I was testing so this question is probably redundant at the moment. - thanks, though for your reply.

You could experiment with different rssi values. The default on minimum_rssi on start_scan() is -80. Try adding something like minimum_rssi=-100 to extend the range.

I've noticed my android tablet is much more sensitive than my nRF52840 based Adafruit boards.

Thanks and I'll give that a try but, as it happens, it is now picking up the device. I just need to keep it close by.
