PyPortal DOA

Order #2331735-4434674548

Just had my PyPortal arrive and it appears dead on arrival.

I've tried 3 different micro USB cables (including known-good cables used with a Teensy) on 2 different computers (Mac and windows 10) as well as directly from a USB wall wart.

When the PyPortal is plugged in, nothing happens. No screen, no neopixel, no detection as a device from either the windows or the mac machines. Pressing reset once or double-clicking has no effect.

Just to be sure, when double clicking reset, nothing = none of the LEDs on the back come on at all? And you never even see the backlight of the display come on?

Reset button has no effect at all.

When the device is first plugged in, you can see the display backlight flicker once. This flicker is the only sign of life for the PyPortal. I have never seen one of the LEDs illuminated or the display do more than flicker once, dimly.

Thanks. That's sounding pretty non-functional alright. Can you post a photo of the backside of the PyPortal so we can look for anything obvious that might be going on with the hardware.

I could very well be testing it wrong (not an expert), but the diode labeled `bM` appears to be measuring 0L in both directions.

Thanks for that excellent photo. That part labeled bM is a fuse, so measuring 0L there is actually good - means it's not tripped. :)

Is that maybe a solder bridge on these pins here, like a small little solder blob shorting two pins?

Checked under a magnifying glass, looks like that was just a spec of dust. All the traces on that chip are looking OK.

Same condition.

Ok, thanks for checking. Not sure what's going on. Let's just replace it.

Send an email to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread (order number is above) and they can send you a replacement PyPortal.
