Set up mDNS on Matrix Portal board with ESP32

by AfterTen on Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:01 pm

I have a one of the new Matrix Portal with the ESP32 WiFi co-processor on it.
Go it up and running using CircuitPython. Connected to my WiFi and grabbing data. Great.

Doing some googling and I see a post that says MicroPython v1.12 added multicast DNS (mDNS) support.
The example code does an
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
import network
then
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
wlan = network.WLAN(network.STA_IF)
wlan.active(True)
wlan.config(dhcp_hostname = 'matrixportal'])

You could then
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
ping matrixportal.local

Been trying lots of trial and error and googling but can't get anywhere close to this.
I'm new to CircuitPython so anyone know if this is possible?
What documentation should I have been looking at to figure it out?

Thanks for any help.

It isn't supported as far as I know. The ESP32 coprocessor is running the Nina firmware which is based on Arduino. I'm not sure whether it has mDNS support. The main control code is here: https://github.com/adafruit/nina-fw/blo ... andler.cpp
