STM32F405 Circuitpython 5.3.1 does not work

by dwetchells on Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:42 pm

Greetings. in the sip & puff project. installing 5.3.1 which causes the program to hard crash. Installing 5.2.0 works just fine so I went and dug a bit deeper in the auto releases and found [b]adafruit-circuitpython-feather_stm32f405_express-en_US-20200415-11d6e17.bin works but any on and after adafruit-circuitpython-feather_stm32f405_express-en_US-20200415-ae549fc.bin fails. In looking at the file sizes, something was pulled from the files and made it smaller. I can't tell from the release notes what was done on that day.
Sincerely Dale

Hi Dale, would you mind testing with the latest 6.0.0 pre-release? If it's not fixed there then we'll want to get an issue filed so we can fix it. Thanks!

Tannewt, There is a mixed bag with 6.0 Beta 2. The project does work for a few seconds then quits. with the following error messages.
code.py output:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "code.py", line 3, in <module>
File "puff_detector.py", line 82, in __init__
File "puff_detector.py", line 92, in _init_stuff
ValueError: Unable to find I2C Display at 3d

The display freezes and the STM32F405 Status like starts with a long green, then yellow almost gold color, then a quick yellow yellow, then a quick three teal blinks and then a very quick red. then back to green solid and repeats. The display never changes All the components are the exact ones described in the sip & puff project. It takes about 3 - 5 seconds for it to crash so it seem like a buffer is filling up or something like that. I did recopy the code.py and detector.py files back over with no luck.

Thanks for trying Beta 2! I *just* fixed a time keeping issue on STM that caused issues with I2C. Would you mind trying https://adafruit-circuit-python.s3.amaz ... 3dee4a.bin or later?

The LED color blinking is the line number so no need to state what it is when you have a stack trace. Thanks!

Tannewt, Thank you very much. That seems to have taken care of the issue.
I was diagnosed with ALS some years back and looking for cheaper way to communicate with an iPad. Using your scripts I am figuring out how to set up a sip & puffer along with touch pad switches to talk to a ESP32 and Bluetooth, to control an Pad via Assisted controls. This is a serious project for me when it comes time when I can't use my hands. Thanks again so much for helping me. Next step setting up the GPIO on the STM32F405 and have it talking to a ESP32 feather. Stay safe.

You're welcome. Sorry to hear about your ALS diagnosis. I'm glad we can help you plan ahead and prepare. The Feather nRF52840 may be simpler to setup than an ESP32 for Bluetooth. Feel free to drop by the Adafruit Discord if you need help as well: https://adafru.it/discord Be well.
