WiFi for matrix portal m4 board

by discoeye on Fri Jan 08, 2021 2:35 pm

Hi to all,
noob discoeye here from the uk. I recently bought a matrix portal M4 and 32x64 board, I am a complete novice to this world of Adafruit but have had a small bit of tinkering around with raspberry pi's and falcon player for pixel node lights.
However i have fumbled my way through the basic setup and used the monster eyes code somebody has kindly posted and all is well but I can't get my head round the wifi side of the board I know there is a great guide on here but I am lost as how to write the relevant code and test it is connected.

Any help out there would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards Discoeye

You don't mention what language you'd like to use. In any case any PyPortal or AirLift guides should be applicable.
For Example, see https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-airlift-breakout.

Hi,
thanks. I was under the impression the matrix portal m4 board had wifi built in already . I did manage to run an example test and it says the firmware needs to be updated esp32 1.3 firmware.
Im sorry im such a novice but I thought that was the point to learn and I am trying honestly now im completely stuck with a firmware upgrade.

Regards lee
P.S I guess you mean my language which is English .

Yes, the ESP32 is on the board, but from a software point of view, it's just an ESP that is connected - regardless of where or how it's connected.

It sounds like the first step is getting the firmware updated.
