Starting over from scratch trying to install

by Catboy on Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:50 pm

I have repeatedly tried to install circuit python and blinka unsuccessfully off and on for two months now and I'm not having any luck whatsoever. I was told that I needed python 3.6 or higher for it to work properly. I tried multiple versions of 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8 and nothing worked.

So I completely wiped my raspberry pi with a total reinstall of the operating system. I need someone to give me clear instructions on which version of python to install that will work with circuit python, how to both install and make it default, then finally get blinka to work properly without syntax errors or or the missing board module error.

Please please please don't just send to the main installation page

https://learn.adafruit.com/circuitpytho ... spberry-pi

telling me it's going to work, it clearly doesn't. It's obviously missing some pretty vital pieces of information. I've wiped this Raspberry at least three times starting over from scratch, specifically following that page of instructions, and it ended in failure every single time. No matter what fixes I try to apply afterwards (such as a forced reinstall) I either get a missing module board error, or a syntax error.

If anyone can help, please do.

Python 3 as installed by default of Raspberry Pi OS will work fine.

Do this when starting from a clean OS:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
1) pip3 install --upgrade setuptools
2) pip3 install RPI.GPIO
3) pip3 install adafruit-blinka

IIRC, python3 will call python 3.whateverversion

If that doesn't work you have other problems.

That's what happens when you get to this step?
