ESP DevKIt V1 trouble with CircuitPython

by jhoop4151 on Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:07 pm

I'm having trouble loading CircuitPython on a ESP DevKit V1. I can erase the board with "esptool.py --chip esp32 erase_flash". And load the board with "esptool.py --chip esp32 --port /dev/ttyUSB0 --baud 921600 write_flash -z 0x0000 adafruit-circuitpython-espressif_saloa_1_wroom-en_US-6.1.0.bin" while holding the boot button. After that I'm lost. I can't find the right button sequence to boot the board. The board doesn't show up on MU. From this you should be able to figure out I'm noob, learning as I'm going.
Thanks for any help.
Jim

Are you sure it is a ESP32-S2 and not an ESP32? (Your command has ESP32 in it.) CircuitPython is only supported on the ESP32-S2.

Well that explains everything. The chip is a ESP32-DOWDQ6. No wonder it wouldn't load CircuitPython.
Now to put back that hair I was pulling out and then order different boards.
Thanks for the help.
