Updating modules and functions for compatibility with Elecro

by paflwork on Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:38 pm

Hello!

I'm a total novice, and have started by tinkering with assorted RPi4 HATs, circuit playground, etc, including the Elecrow Crowtail Starter Kit. (https://www.elecrow.com/crowtail-starter-kit-for-raspberry-pi-1.html) which comes with a 2 x 16 LCD screen.

I was trying to use their tutorial (https://github.com/Elecrow-RD/RPi-Starter-Kit/blob/master/examples/16_distance_display.py) which I found to be outdated! I'm lost, and I'd really like help trying to figure out how to update it.

First, it says
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
import Adafruit_CharLCD as LCD
which gives me a no module found, but when I change it to the current Adafruit_CircuitPython_CharLCD, I get a different error regarding
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
LCD.Adafruit_CharLCDBackpack(address = 0x20)

I tried using this page: https://learn.adafruit.com/character-lcds/python-circuitpython but since the LCD isn't plugged into a breadboard I got stumped.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

p

I'd suggest reaching out to Elecrow since it's their tutorial and example code.

Thanks, I've done that as well, but how do I find the updated equivalent to the attribute "adafruit_charlcdbackpack'?

That depends on the hardware design and I'm not aware of how it's been designed. Elecrow should be able to help since they designed it.
