Ultimate GPS busio UART not supported

by wawawan on Sun Apr 18, 2021 1:36 pm

Hi,
I try to run the adafruit ultimate gps with raspberry pi3 but actualy I am stopped with this message : " busio.UART not supported on this platform "
The GPS is connected to gpio pin as described in adafruit tutorials but I am not sure about the correction to apply.

Do I simply change the code with these lines ?

RX = board.RX
TX = board.TX
uart = busio.UART(TX, RX, baudrate=9600, timeout=3000)

Thanks for Help.

On a Pi, you'll want to use pyserial and then use a different set of imports and setup. Look for these commented out lines:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
# for a computer, use the pyserial library for uart access
# import serial
# uart = serial.Serial("/dev/ttyUSB0", baudrate=9600, timeout=10)

Hi,
I want to use UART to run my raspberry with adafruit ultimate gps. Actually I succeed with the python lib busio BUT I have another mistake with the busio.py :

file"/usr/.../busio.py", line 99 def readfrom_into(self, address, buffer, *, start=0, end=None):
syntaxe error: invalid syntax

==> What does that mean ?

thanks.

Sorry with that but There are lots and lots of guides out there for running Ultimate GPS but they're mostly out of date and don't seem to be compatible with Raspberry Pi OS Buster.

Does exist another guide working with Raspberry pi3 buster ? UART ?

Many Thanks

Not sure what you did for busio, but you can't use that on a Pi. If you try, you should get an error message that says:
busio.UART not supported on this platform. Please use pyserial instead.

The guide for the GPS covers use with a Raspberry Pi:

Hello,
I try again to run the ultimate adafruit GPS but I have some error with python adafruit librairies.
I test my raspberry pi serial port and it works correctly ( /dev/ttyAMA0), so I don't understand where I the error ? From adafruit librairies ?
Is it possible to acquire datas from GPS without adafruit python codes / librairies ? just sending simple command and reading simple datas from serial ports ?

Thanks for all.

Hello, I finally succeed in reading data from the gps (not using adafruit librairies) but I have another problem : datas show my position at about 200km from my real localisation. How explain that ?

Thanks.

If you have good 3D GPS lock, make sure the library is parsing the NMEA sentence correctly.
