Hello Forum members,
I have a Magtag and am able to get to Magtag boot but when UF2 or Bin file in dropped on Magtagboot the files look OK but W10 explorer keeps cycling every 2-3 seconds.
The file dropped onto Magtagboot is adafruit-circuitpython-adafruit-magtog_2.9_grayscale-en_US-7.0.0.UF2
Even when I tried using the Bin version of the file with Webserial the same result, explorer cycles. When the window opens it does read CircuitPY for 2-3 seconds and then closes.
It's acting as if I was turning the power off every 3-5 seconds. I tried looking for Version 6.3 to see it that would be OK and could not find it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Regards, Larry

Testing 6.3.0 is a good idea! You can get past releases through the "Absolute Newest" S3 link: https://adafruit-circuit-python.s3.amaz ... ale/en_US/ Let us know if 6.3 works ok.

Re: magtagboot OK explorer keeps cycling
Hello Adafruit,
I am not able to get the MAGTAG into boot mode any more and There is a hot spot on the board near the On / Off switch. It's warm enough that about 5 to 10 seconds after I plug in the USB-C connector I need to yank hand away. I have not done anything else with the MAGTAG only plugged it in.
Looking at the past symptoms with not connecting, I suspect a power fault with the board.
If I let the board sit over night and try again the next day it will connect to my W10 Computer for 3 to 5 seconds and an explorer window opens shows a file (CircuitPY) and then closes.
Let me know what you think.
Regards, Larry

The heating up does seem to indicate some kind of hardware failure. Thanks for the photos. Nothing obviously wrong in that area of the board.
What is the history of this MagTag? Is it new out of the box? etc.

Hello,
Yes it is a new unit. I ordered it a while ago and didn't have time to work with it until
the weather changed and had a few rainy days (Vancouver) to get back into electronics.

Hello Adafruit,
Does this issue sound like an issue that would be considered for a replacement MagTag ?

Yep, sorry for the delay. The heating is very odd, esp. the location, and was doing some asking around here about what could cause that. But let's just replace your board.
Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a replacement MagTag.
