Hi,
I'm using this battery charger with the 5V ItsyBitsy:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2124
I just want to verify I'm wiring correctly. Do the connections on the charger Bat, G and 5V go to Bat, G, and USB on the ItsyBitsy. Or do I wire across the board to the 5V pin?
Thanks,
Mark

The LiPo backpack won't work on a 5v ItsyBitsy. On that board Vbat feeds into the 5v regulator, hence has to be > 5v. You can't power it with a 3.7v LiPo.

Re: Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack on 5V ItsyBitsy
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the quick reply. Bummer. Why is that backpack listed as "Also include 1 x Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack Add-On for Pro Trinket/ItsyBitsy ($4.95)" on the right side of the page for the 5V ItsyBitsy? Here's the link:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3677
If it doesn't work please take it off the site. And if it does, please let me know how!
Is there an alternative I can buy which would work?
Thanks!
Mark

Re: Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack on 5V ItsyBitsy
Because it's an ItsyBitsy accessory, just not the single (I think) 5v one. Similarly it is for the 3v TrinketPro, not the 5v model. You make a good point. I'll mention that to the folks that can fix it.

Re: Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack on 5V ItsyBitsy
Thanks again for the super quick reply.
Please watch this video of LadyAda discussing using the charger. It's from the first video on the charger page.

She makes mention of using it with a 5V Trinket. Any relevance to the 5V ItsyBitsy?
Thanks,
Mark

The power section of each of those is the same, so if it works on one it should work on the other.

Re: Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack on 5V ItsyBitsy
I'm willing to try it. Shown on the charger page is the Pro Trinket 5V. The pins beneath where the charger is show wired in are Bat, G, Bus. On the ItsyBitsy they are Bat, G, USB. Do I wire the 5V pin on the charger to the USB pin or do I wire across the board over to the 5V pin?
Thanks,
Mark

On the Pro Trinket, ItsyBitsy, and Audio FX boards (maybe more, I know Limor was planning to standardize those 3 pins) the backpack mounts directly on those first 3 pins: Bat, Ground, 5v/USB/BUS.

Re: Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack on 5V ItsyBitsy
Aside from the voltage regulator, the main difference between the 3v and 5v models of the 32U4 ItsyBitsy is the clock speed. Atmel does not guarantee that the 32U4 (and other members of the ATMEGA family) will run at 16MHz with a supply voltage less than 5v. But it is fairly well known that most often they do just fine as low 3.3v. One thing to be aware of is that your analog reference will change.

I wired it up. Seems to work fine for me in my current application.
Thanks for the support,

you can use it, but the voltage will be lower than 5V of course. its not ideal but it is functional.
