Adafruit Metro esp32-S2 Express No Com Port

by Anorak1 on Mon Jun 14, 2021 7:24 am

No Com port visible.
The USB cable is good as it works with an M5 Atom.
Have done the reset whilst holding DFU/Boot button routine
In fact I have tried all the tried and tested boot / reset switch options but to no avail.
The green O.K led is lit and the red CHG led is flickering.
It's almost as if there is no bootloader installed, or there is a hardware connection issue somewhere on the board

I have been using ESP8266s and latterly ESP32s for some time and this is a first for me .....Suggestions please !

The ESP32-S2 has a ROM bootloader, which means it's always there and no way for it to go away. Just to be sure, you are trying this process?

Try also flipping the USB-C cable and see if that helps.

And double check the on/off switch on the Metro board.

Have checked the on/off...... the green O.K light goes on & off.
Have also flipped the USB C cable..... no change.

I bought the device from PiHut (UK) Order #682245

Can you or PiHut please send a replacement as the Com port doesn't seem to work with this one ?
Regards
Ralph

Can you clarify where you are looking for the COM port. In Device Manager? other?

I'm looking under com port and USB.
I also look in the tools section of Arduino 1.8.13
I also look in the tools section of IDE2. 0 beta 7, and it reports no ports found.
I also look in the disc section of Explorer to see if it has set up as a CDC.
Nothing.
All my other boards generate a sound on the PC as you plug them in....
Again nothing.
If I plug in a M5Stack Atom, ( Esp32 device) it is recognised, so is my Metro M0 Express if I press the bootsel button.

Thanks for all the info and checking. Let's just replace it. Seems like something just isn't getting through on that metro.

Send an email to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a replacement Metro ESP32-S2.

The replacement board arrived today. The neopixel lights up and a com port appears, so "all nice day".
Thanks for the prompt replacement of what was evidently a faulty unit.
