beta experimental - https://maker.makecode.com

Post by adafruit »

ok folks!

this is a “beta experimental effort” brought you by your friends at microsoft research... (makers of https://makecode.adafruit.com)

the team just pushed and open sourced the experimental “maker” editor at https://maker.makecode.com (source https://github.com/Microsoft/pxt-maker). this is an editor for breadboarding-friendly board like the metro/gemma/trinket, etc… it is built on the same core runtime stack (codal / common packages, makecode) as the circuit playground editor – but it is not as specialized as the cpx. the theme/look has not been added yet, this is beta and experimental :)

why is this relevant? the maker editor is a better to iterate on new features such as the hid support – we/you can test and deploy faster without breaking any existing make codes'. also, it can support all the uf2 boards. tell us what you think about this!

the goal is to understand better what users might want (feature requests). bugs are good. style/theme less important for now. projects always welcome!

this is beta and all that :)

Nice Platform with plenty of potential.... I was hoping to use an Adafruit Metro 328, but I'll use the Trinket M0.
I'll play with the makercode platform in my free time during the week.... see you soon. :)

This is great! Now we can have beginner friendly project boards for under $10. This could be a game changer for teaching basic code/electronics projects to beginners. I thought they had left out Neopixels but found them under extensions.

Will check it out in detail ASAP.

We've enabled the breadboard assembly instructions feature... look for the blue tool icon under the simulator.

One of the favorite projects for my students is a Trinket M0 with Neopixels for project light animation. I am trying to replicate this in maker.makecode but can not get it working. I assume I need a 'create strip on' oval but what block does that go in? Can someone share a sample program that will light a 12 pixel ring to a blue color using the Trinket M0.

Thanks

This is really great for my students to learn with. When will we be able to select the components to use on the breadboard?
