Metro 328 - Suitable for use with QMK firmware?

by sortofsleepy on Tue Jan 29, 2019 10:54 am

Hello!

I'm in this midst of trying to figure out a build for a custom keyboard. While I work on figuring out KiCad,
I figure it'd be good to try to prototype a bit with a basic Arduino.

The compatibility page for QMK found here
https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/compatible_microcontrollers.md

lists the ATmega328P as a compatible chip, but mentions V-USB; this is something that's new to me and I was curious if anyone might be
able to help me figure out if the Metro would still be a compatible prototyping board before I plunk down $17 bucks.

Thanks!

V_USB appears to be a software emulation of a USB 1.1 low-speed port. It requires some external components as well. (see the circuit diagram on this page: https://www.obdev.at/products/vusb/index.html)

We have not tested V_USB. But in our experience, software USB emulation can be quite finicky - especially when attempting to use with USB 3.0 ports.

Ah gotcha, thanks for the explanation Bill!
