2 Metros not recognized by Mac

by mlonardo on Wed Jul 15, 2020 1:40 am

I'm putting together a project with a Metro and it seems to be having trouble being recognized by my computer. I have 2 metro boards, 1 with headers and one without. I've been following along the metro tutorial. when I plug in the metro to computer via usb, the green light is solid and the red light just flashes. nothing pops up in my finder under drives. the terminal doesn't see it, and neither does "about this Mac>system report>usb: it's not in the list.

I have tried numerous cables and even plugged the usb cables into a feather M0 and it showed up so doesn't seem to be a cable issue.

Exact same problem with Metro Mini.
I'm running Mac with Mojave 10.14.6
Driver installation from FTDI and Silicon Labs (Silab) ran smoothly, but no new drivers show up under /dev directory.
Postings from users at Silab suggest others cannot get their drivers to load under Mojave.
Does anyone have Metro boards running under Mojave or Catalina?

I've attached the "info.txt" file generated by "get_info.sh" shell script from Silab.

@PhilipStoddard Please start a new thread for your issue.

@mlonardo Which specific Metro board are you using?

Did you install the CP2014 drivers? See link at bottom of product page:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2488

Mac & Windows People! Don't forget to grab & install the CP2014 VCP drivers from SiLabs to make the COM/Serial port show up right! The default drivers may not support this USB/Serial chip

I thought I had but I just tried installing it again and seems it didn't install correctly. Seems like my system blocked the install. When I click Allow in security preferences, nothing happens. I also noticed it just says "some system software wax blocked from loading" next to the Allow button. The installer shows specifically which software was blocked. see screenshot.

OK, seems like that's probably the issues.

"does nothing" means what? The dialog doesn't even go away?

try:
close the Security & Privacy window after you've set permission.
then close and reopen the CP2104 driver installer

If I try to quit I get a dialogue saying "Installation is incomplete. If you quit now, the driver may not work correctly.

If I try to continue I get a dialogue shown in the screenshot.

feels like a loop

ok, Installer just finished and said it "installed correctly"
