Metro 328 Upload Error

by buggybean314 on Thu Aug 06, 2020 10:41 pm

I recently purchased a Metro 328 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2488) for a project and am unable to upload any code to it. I have tried selecting both the Uno and the Metro in the Arduino IDE board menu, and both give the error message “avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x98
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x98” when uploading. The TX LED also blinks when uploading. After reading the thread at viewtopic.php?f=22&t=119232, I tried to burn a new bootloader using the FTDI Friend, but it gave a similar error message. The USB cable and computer I am using both work fine with other boards, and I also installed the drivers for both the Metro 328 and the FTDI friend. My computer is running windows 10, but the same error message appeared when I tried to upload from a mac. The Metro is recognized by my computer, and it shows up in the IDE on COM7. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The Metro hasn't used an FTDI chip for some years:
As of March 30, 2018 we now have swapped the FTDI chip for a SiLabs CP2104

Did you install the SiLabs drivers?

After installing the drivers, the IDE gives the same error as before when attempting to upload. However, I have found another board which I can use for my project, although I would be interested to know what might have broken the metro.

Are you still getting the same error even with the UNO? The UNO doesn't use the SiLabs chip, so would have a slightly different upload path.

The board I am using now is an uno clone called the kosmoduino, I still haven't been able to upload to the metro even after installing the SiLabs drivers and restarting my computer. It exhibits the same behavior as before - flashing TX and upload errors.

Can you post a screen shot of your Arduino IDE showing the Tools menu settings you are using for the Metro 328.

No, pressing the reset button doesn't appear to do anything

OK email support@adafruit with a link to this threading requesting a new one.
you can repair this one if you like using online tutorials on how to reload Arduino UNO bootloaders if youd like
