Metro ESP32-S2 availability???

by muttstang on Mon May 24, 2021 9:48 am

Any word on when the Metro ESP32-S2 will be available again? It looks like it will work well for a couple of projects I have going on right now.

@muttstang,

I don't have a date for the Metro ESP32-S2, but I suspect "soon" for the restock.

We do sell several of ESP32-S2 form factors. Can you use any of these?

Thank you, I already have a GPS ultimate shield that I want to use so I'd like to stick with the Uno form factor. And the 5V logic is needed for my relays and digital potentiometer. I'm designing a Uno shaped shield to stack on top of it all as a breakout to some switches and SPI/I2C along with the I/O from the trolling motor that I have. (making my trolling motor a lot smarter)

A trolling motor with GPS. I guess you have some good fishing spots you are trying to get back to?

Use the trolling motor to hold my position, or to maintain a heading without manual adjustment. It's easier then trying to use an anchor. There are systems out there to do that but they are expensive and I like to tinker.

I thought I saw somewhere that this board is 5V tolerant on the gpio but am having trouble finding that info again. am I correct that it is 5V tolerant? that's one of the reasons I'm waiting on this board.

Nope, not 5v tolerant. You will need to use a level shifter or another techique if 5v is needed.

ahh, so something like 74AHCT14 would be needed on my breakout board for the 5V devices. I can use that on the relays and digital pot.

Got it ordered along with a GPI expander board for the control pendant. Eventually I'll change over to another wifi device for the control but... baby steps!
