Arduino IDE: "Serial Ports" is grayed out - Metro 328

Post by nathanhinchey »

I just got the Adafruit MetroX Classic Kit - Experimentation Kit for Metro 328.

I'm using Windows 10 and when I use the Arduino IDE it shows a COM3 option for ports, but Serial Ports is disabled / greyed out. Arduino IDE version 1.8.19 (Windows Store 1.8.57.0).

I installed the drivers from https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ard ... stallation

I'm not sure what the next step for troubleshooting this should be. The troubleshooting shortlink given on the CIRC-01 page of the Experimenter's Guide (http://adafru.it/METROXTRBL) just goes to the home Arduino help center.

The word “serial ports” will always be greyed out so that is a non-issue.

Does your board work when you try to upload code over COM3?

Does COM3 disappear when you unplug your board?

Go ahead and try the CIRC01 example and see how far you get.

Oh, yes, COM3 disappears when the board is unplugged, so that's correct.

The upload doesn't give any errors or any success messages, is there a way to verify that it uploaded?

The CIRC01 Blink circuit doesn't seem to be working. I think I've done the wiring correctly, but I'm confused about why I'm running the 5V from the Metro to the + rail of the bread board but then not using that rail for anything else, so perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
Wire from GND to minus rail. Wire from 5V to plus rail. Wire from 13 to row 21. Resistor from minus rail to row 20. led from row 20 (short end) to row 21 (long end). I tried rotating the LED.

It turns out the LED wasn't working. I just switched in a different LED and now it works.

RESOLVED.
