Metro Mini 5v 3v Jumper

Post by benfarahmand »

Before I cut the 5v jumper and solder the 3v jumper, I would appreciate an expert opinion.

I'm planning to connect a raspberry pi 0 via rx tx to the metro mini. If I cut the 5v jumper and solder the 3v jumper, this should place both the RPi0 and Metro Mini at 3.3v logic. Am I understanding it correctly?

Any recommendation on how to cut the 5v jumper? I want to ensure it's fully cut.

I read about the jumper in the following PDF about the Metro Mini: https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/download ... o-mini.pdf

To cut the jumper, you can use a hobby knife. Scrape repeatedly with the tip of the knife until you cut completely through the narrow copper trace between the pads - all the way down to the fiberglass.

A rotary tool like a Dremel can be quicker. But use care not to damage any other nearby traces.

Thank you. I'll try using a hobby knife.

After this procedure am I correct to assume I don't need a 3.3V/5V level shifter to connect the RPi0 to Metro Mini via Rx Tx?

That is correct. With the jumper set to 3v, the signals will be safe for connecting to the RPi.
